Last issue I covered the face – primer, foundation, powder, blusher. Here are my recommendations of the top eye and lip products, and how to get the most out of them to boost your features.
There are thousands of different ways you can wear your makeup – but there are always going to be certain products you need – a primer, eyeshadows , eyeliner, mascara and eyelash curlers. Firstly, eye primers will make your eyeshadow crease-proof, no matter how long you have it on. It’ll make the colour so much brighter, and your eye make-up will last longer than you do! My favourite primer is Urban Decay’s cult favourite – Eye Shadow Primer Potion, it’s around £11, and worth every penny.
Cheap eyeshadows just won’t do the job: they won’t have much pigment in them and they won’t blend properly. Invest in eyeshadows that are a little more pricey, but will be much more cost effective. I recommend shadows from Urban Decay, MAC and yaby. Don’t fall into the trap of ‘this colour matches my eye/hair colour’ – this means nothing and is just a company’s way of selling their products. Instead go for colours you love and know you’ll wear loads.
Eyeliner is another product which is worth the investment, the higher end products generally will last longer and not smudge. My personal favourite which comes with me to every shoot is MACs fluidline eye liner in ‘Blacktrack’ – sweep it on with an eyeliner brush (the 210 brush from MAC is great, or for a cheaper version try e.l.f.’s small precision eyeliner brush for £3.50) and create a perfect cat eye flick à la Marilyn Monroe.
With mascara, don’t buy into the hype – the black liquid inside is almost exactly the same, no matter what price the mascara is, you’re paying for the different shaped wand! My personal favourite is either Urban Decay’s Big Fatty Mascara, or L’Oréal Double Extend Tubes: they’re both amazing and make you look like you have humongously long and volumised lashes.
Eyelash curlers are a product many ladies have never used or find too confusing, but these things are AMAZING! Don’t miss out on them. I really love Shu Uemura eyelash curlers, they’re one of the priciest curlers available on the market, but that’s because they are made so amazingly well. They fit any eye shape, curl the lash without bending it too far (which causes it to break), and the curl stays in the lash for at least a day – wonderful! Remember to always curl your lashes before mascara, not after.
Next you need your lips to look beautiful. Moisturise them with something that’s full of vitamins and will keep them soft all day – MAC’s lip conditioners are amazing for this. Then ensure your lipstick stays on forever by using Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner, these are cheap and amazing. You can even use them alone just to create a more outlined shape and deeper colour to your lips. Lipsticks are more hit and miss with regard to price, some cheap ones like Barry M are amazing, so highly pigmented and none drying to the lips, but other cheap lipsticks really should be avoided with a barge pole. My personal favourite lipstick brand is MAC – they have such a huge range of colours, hues and textures that there’s no way you can’t find a lipstick that you love. My personal favourite (and Kim Kardashians too!) is MACs lipstick in ‘Angel’ – it’s the perfect dull pink that can be worn day or night. With regards to lipgloss, price means nothing – go for the cheap ones, they’ll be exactly the same as the more expensive offerings.
So my lovelies, get on your marks and go and fill your makeup bags with these beautiful goodies!
