Key items for your holiday wardrobe

Exams are here, term is ending and after that (if you’re lucky) it’s time to jet off for summer holidays. This undoubtedly means a wardrobe update; by investing in several key items it’s easy to perfect your summer style. Firstly, a hat is essential both to protect your face and prevent sunburn but also to provide the perfect accessory to a simple outfit. With the seventies being a key trend this season, channel Marc Jacobs in a big straw floppy hat with a wide brim. Topshop have a fun selection of different colours to match your bikini or beach look. If your style is more boho, then opt for a straw trilby or cowboy hat like Moschino for laid-back allure. Silky headscarves in bright colours or prints are the perfect alternative to hats; copy Rochas with a vintage print worn to cover your hair, or Missoni’s subtle print worn Grace Kelly-style with loose flowing curls.

Sunglasses have had a makeover: it’s time to ditch the aviators and wayfarers and opt for retro styles. Cats eye shapes as seen at Giles and Bottega Veneta are a ladylike alternative, similar styles can be found on ASOS. Round styles, as seen at Lanvin or Diana Von Furstenberg are kooky whilst channeling a vintage vibe. River Island have several colours to match your holiday colour palette.

Bikini cover-ups are also a key beach item and this season with the focus on floaty chiffon they’re more popular than ever. If chiffon isn’t your thing follow the example of Ermanno Scervino and use cute crochets to cover up and look cool. A long, flowing maxi-dress in an airy material and casual cut is the perfect cover-up to take your outfit from day to night.

Embellished sandals are an essential final touch this season. From fringing at Stella McCartney to Beading at Rupert Sanderson, the attention this season was in the straps rather than a heel. New Look have a wide selection of pretty sandals with feather and bead details, perfect to see your wardrobe through from beach to festivals.
