White lace was all over the catwalk before Kate Middleton wore that dress, but with the world’s adoring eyes on Kate’s lace covered McQueen creation we can be sure that lace will be the biggest trend this season. What differentiates this lace from previous seasons, is the emphasis on antique, vintage style fabrics and hourglass silhouettes. Delicate lace in the style of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress is the ultimate classic and shows how lace transcends time and trends.

D&G used lace heavily in their almost all white Spring/Summer collection, celebrating their 25th anniversary as a business. Their concept revolved around the idea of a girl’s trousseau, bursting with bedspreads, tablecloths and curtains; transformed into classic D&G hourglass creations. Antique-looking fabrics added to the aged, vintage feel: broderie anglaise, crochet, a velvety florals. All updated in classic yet modern shapes.

Gillian has delicately illustrated the way in which lace strongly evokes romance. Her own brand of vintage dreaminess in her photography and illustration beautifully displays the whimsical qualities of lace. Vintage romance is certainly central this Spring/Summer, luckily we can all feel a princess when we wear it.
