tribe, n.

A group of people forming a community and claiming descent from a common ancestor [1]

The Tribe is a community of students dedicated to nurturing writing talent: incisive journalism, creative focus, experimentation and innovation are what we’re about.
Like all tribes, we are indebted to our elders: founder and former editor-in-chief Jessica Cook and my predecessor Olivia Parish. They have taken The Tribe from its humble beginnings in September 2009 to the much-expanded publication we are today, without external assistance but powered by sheer determination to succeed and hard work.

Welcome to the first issue of The Tribe 2011-12. As a student publication, it’s only natural that we look back at the summer months to reflect, whether on political events across the globe, cultural highlights or individual milestones such as graduation; but we also look forward to the coming months, to the latest scientific advances or catwalk trends, as well as personal goals for the year ahead.

Look out for us at the Freshers Fayre or drop our section editors an email (see our contacts page) to get involved.

Welcome to our Tribe,

Rosie Steer

Editor in Chief
