Get fierce this Autumn

When discussing trends that never seem to go out of vogue I can guarantee animal print will be one of them. This trend always seems a bit like marmite with the younger generations; either love it or hate it. Nevertheless in the wardrobes of most girls I know there lurks some leopard print, whether it be a blouse, some shoes or even a pair of knickers. It’s as standard a part of a girl’s wardrobe as the LBD or black bodycon skirt.

So the explosion of animal print for the Autumn/Winter season should please current lovers and I have a feeling it might just convert some of the uninitiated. The infinite wearability of this style means there is something out there for all tastes. For the less adventurous there is always the option of simply using the trend for your accessories: funk up any outfit by throwing on a pair of leopard print heels or adding a zebra print clutch.

You don’t have to stick to standard leopard print either; this season is all about experimenting with cheetah, zebra, snake and pretty much every other animal print you can think of. Mix them, match them and clash them, nothing says fierce like rocking some spots or stripes with a pair of killer heels and some careful accessorising, day or night. Sound scary? Designers this season also showed some subtler nods to the trend: soft chiffon blouses in milky white snow leopard spots and bags that alternate print with block colours are definitely less out there, but still hit the trend.

The standout animal print of this season has been Dalmatian. It first appeared in the Topshop Unique collection in a variety of forms (think blouses, bags and faux fur coats) and has exploded all over the catwalks and shops since then. In my opinion this is one of the most fun prints around at the moment and definitely adds a bit of life to any outfit. I for one have every intention of channelling Cruella de Vil and swanning down Market Street this winter in a massive faux fur Dalmatian print coat. And that’s the thing about animal print; it can be classy, it can be trashy, but it is always fun to wear. So with the barrage of print hitting the stores and Internet right now why not have a look and see if anything catches your eye? I have a basketful already.
