Cameron Evans’s A moment is haunting in its subject matter and language. Perhaps one to read for the upcoming Halloween celebrations this Friday…

A moment

When the last vespers of the night

Have retired

Or are assuming each other

I sometimes stay, watching

Loafe, and sing myself.

You, in your cups,

Seek passion and blood

Like the gladiators of old

O, and the sin of the flesh!

That I am in my cups too, is true

I do not deny it, I hold out for you

My blood-stained hands

But I too forget

Words said a while ago

And to see him again

In the drunken haze.
