With Christmas just around the corner (22 days to be exact!) Morgan Scobie takes a look at some of St Andrews’ best dressed from the Mermaids Christmas Ball. Here are her favourite outfits from the night that are both festive and on-trend, set to inspire even the most avid Christmas jumper fanatics among us. This season its not all about those LBD’s, but the flirty midi dresses and smouldering jumpsuits and two pieces.

Name: Marie Valence

Top and trousers: Manteau Promod

This season, designers have said goodbye to the party dresses and hello to jumpsuits, tailored suits and trousers. Often we frantically search for that perfect ball dress, but if you fancy a change from that tight, restricting mini dress that usually finds its way into our festive wardrobe, then two piece suits and outfits are the way to go. Marie shows us that you can look just as fabulous in a pair of smart, satin trousers and a white fancy top. Paired with bright, colorful shoes, she has created a simple tailored, yet still feminine look that is sure to turn heads.

Name: Olivia Swales

Dress: Sherri Hill

Olivia has taken glamour to the next level in this Sherri Hill gown. With the bling, cut out and thigh split, what more could a girl want? Despite the bodice being covered in gorgeous crystals, it remains understated and classic with the black skirt. The small amount of flesh adds a small, but just right amount of sexiness. This formal and very charming dress is the perfect outfit for those fancy NYE parties and balls coming up this Christmas.

Name: Dakota Hlaing

Dress: New Look

With this dress you can definitely sparkle this season…literally. High neck, midi and sparkling – Dakota’s dress combines three very important trends this fall. With Christmas very soon, sparkly dresses are a must. Not only do they shout Christmas cheer, but they are also fund and eye-catching. Dakota demonstrates that sparkly dresses don’t need to be over-the-top and crazy to create a runway-worthy look.

Name: Samantha Porter

Playsuit: Warehouse

Bored of your LBD? A black playsuit is a perfect new take on the classic black cocktail dress. Playsuits are very versatile and stylish; they are easy to dress down for a day look, but add a pair of heels and red lipstick for the ultimate nighttime outfit. Samantha has this look spot on! The lace insert, sleeves and collar are vintage-inspired and go well with the modern playsuit trend. Playsuits are a great and stylish way to dress up while still remaining comfortable and unrestricted.

Name: Alex Fraser

Dress: Coast

This Christmas, it is time to work that 60’s prom dress. Alex shows us that this trend is nothing to be afraid of. Pairing her tulle and satin dress with nude court shoes, she creates an elegant and party-perfect look. Texture is everything this season and Alex shows us how it is done. With a satin bodice and puffy tulle skirt, she demonstrates that a Christmas should be anything but boring. You can’t go wrong this winter with a nod to the swinging sixties!

Name: Izzy Turner

Jumpsuit: New Look

Jumpsuits are a must this autumn/winter. Jumpsuits always stand out from the cocktail dresses. However, there are many Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to wearing one. Izzy’s outfit is a definite Do: she looks incredible in this all-black, sophisticated outfit worn with red shoes and contrasting necklace. Her hair up-do gives her an elongated, elegant neck, adding extra height. The tailoring makes Izzy look like a knockout. I cannot fault this classic, chic outfit. For me, it ticks all the right boxes.
