There are many laughs to be had during On the Rocks. Here are five! Come check out the comedy scene in St Andrews.
April 7, The Byre Theatre, £5
From the funny people who brought you, Wolf of South Street and other comedic spectaculars, LOOP is “a show that doesn’t know where it starts or the laughter ends.” They promise “mind-blowing comedy that will make you laugh so hard you’ll swear it’s deja vu.” If you are as curious as I am if this is actually possible than the £5 is totally worth it.
2. The Smirths
April 3, The Byre Theatre, £6
The Blind Mirth’s annual sketch show, even though they are our only improv group, is happening the first Sunday of the festival! It’s sure to be an hour of hilarity, and all the money will be supporting their Fringe run.
April 2, Barron Theatre, 21:00, £2
St Andrews has been needing a version of “SNL”; our bubble can be as ridiculous as American politics sometimes. Hosted by the new Comedy Society, come check out this new group of comics performing improv, sketch, and stand-up. It is sure to be a hilarious evening. Well, you’ll probably laugh at least once.
April 7, Buchanan Lecture Theatre, 19:00, £5
St Andrews’ Ballroom and Latin Dance Society are hosting a “Strictly Come Dancing”! There will be rumba, cha-cha, and waltz, and it is sure to be both elegant and a laugh. It may not be comedy, but it will make you smile.
April 10, Sandy’s Bar, 21:00, Free
It’s A Wise Child, a STAR radio show here at St Andrews based on the idea of “This American Life”, presents a night of storytelling. Madeline Inskeep, Kate Marriott, Lily Barnes, and Chris Andrews will be sharing their “funniest, saddest, and most provocative anecdotes”. Check out their other work on soundcloud.
