Shinty
A Scottish game often compared to hockey, largely because it involves a stick and a ball. Aerials are allowed, and players can use both sides of the stick, and certain levels of contact are allowed (shoulder-to-shoulder tackling). The Shinty team are infamous for their training, which is largely off the pitch.
Cheerleading
The Sirens are the St Andrews Cheerleading Society, founded in 2006 for all your Bring It On needs.
Ultimate Frisbee
An increasingly popular university sport. Having fun is considered to be an essential rule of the game. Give it a go at the taster sessions in Orientation to see if it’s for you.
Korfball
A mix of netball and basketball with a team of eight – 4 men and 4 women. If you’re looking for something new, but don’t want to stray too far from what you know, this might be the one for you.
Bopping
OK, admittedly not a proper sport, but you could make it into one. Your training session could be the free bop on a Tuesday night, with your fixture on a Friday.
Beer Pong
Classic drinking sport, but rules vary wildly, so make sure you sort them out before you start so you don’t have any beer-pong -rule-related disagreements. Definitely one to try out in Fresher’s Week.
