Scaramanga: The Solution To The Inescapable Cycle of Bag Buying?

Girls, we’ve all been there: A spectacular (yet expensive) bag that our bag-fetish genes just can’t resist; a brief inner struggle persists between the rational and irrational parts of the brain. The irrational part wins, of course, justifying it as ‘an investment’ that you will use for years to come. Within weeks you are lusting after a newer model.

My saviour from this vicious cycle came in the form of an endlessly stylish and practical bag that I just never want to stop using; thus arresting my innate desire to own as many bags as possible. Now, I compare a potent ional purchase with my own, and my Scaramanga bag always wins out.

Scaramanga is a business based here in Fife, which specialises in vintage style leather satchels and messenger bags for both men and women. The range for men means the guys are free to join in with all the bag-lusting - you know you want to… Or, if in fact only the girls have read this far, then they would perhaps make a great gift for your other half.

Either way, guys or girls, there’s a wide variety of sizes and styles to choose from - the minis make good handbags, whilst the larger bags are great for carting around all your uni stuff between lectures. Naturally, I have one of each! And, aside from two cheeky bags that I couldn’t resist, (and came cheaply from Ebay, which in my eyes doesn’t count) I honestly haven’t bought a bag since.

Each bag is hand crafted by a small family run supplier in India, using fairly sourced materials - so they’re not lying when they tell you that your bag is unique. The marks and imperfections which personalise your bag only add to the vintage look; a look that can only improve with age and use. It does, after all, add character to your bag when it obtains a mark from that time you fell over on South Street when you were drunk…

In short, my Scaramanga bag truly will be around for years to come: it’s unique, it’s vintage, it’s stylish and it’s practical, and it will only look better with age - which is why I’m suggesting that you all go and take a look too.

Finally, I should also mention that there is also a whole pile of other vintage and retro stuff on the website: leather and sari notebooks, jewellery, wooden boxes and chests, warm blankets and shawls for winter… an online box of tricks.
