If you’re looking for an idea for that hard-to-gift scientist in your life, indie rock group They Might Be Giants have recently released a new CD and DVD set with a science theme entitled “Here Comes Science”. Known more for their folk rock tunes “Birdhouse in Your Soul” and “Boss of Me”, this is actually the group’s third educational children’s album. Don’t let the educational label or young demographic discourage you – this delightful album is filled with catchy, foot-tapping breezy tunes with a wide appeal for all ages.

The songs on the album cover a wide range of scientific topics from physics – “Speed and Velocity”, to chemistry - “Meet the Elements”, biology - “Photosynthesis”, astronomy - “How Many Planets” and more general science topics like “Put it to the Test and “Science is Real”. For those who might think that real scientific facts are sacrificed in order for kids to understand, have no worries, the science is simplified but still accurate.

The DVD versions of the songs also include music videos, all done with different styles of animation, ranging from mediocre to the truly fantastic.

Tracks not to miss: Electric Car, Meet the Elements, Roy G Biv
