Being bombarded with event after event, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle that is Fresher’s Week. The question on everyone’s mind- What is actually worth it? Having gone through the trials and errors of Fresher’s Week, I chatted with Georgia Davies, head of press for Starfields 2019, to shed a little light on arguably the biggest fresher’s event.
What exactly is Starfields?
The first of two annual events, Starfields is a music festival hosted by the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show (FS), the largest and most successful student-run fashion show in the nation. The event is essentially a fundraiser for FS’s charitable cause, Fashion Revolution.
What is Fashion Revolution?
After 28 successful runs, this year FS is focusing on increased sustainability.
Fashion Revolution is a global movement that recognises the human cost of the industry. Their goal is to “celebrate fashion as a positive influence while also scrutinising industry practices and raising awareness of the fashion industry’s most pressing issues”. The organisation enables individuals to enact change from social campaigns to political lobbying.

What should guests expect from Starfields?
Taking place in Lower College Lawn, the FS Committee has brought in top-class music acts (see line-up: Matoma, Riton, Crazy Cousinz, TIGRE & Friends), great vendors, and a sustainable ethos to the heart of St Andrews.
What makes Starfields an event returning to is the ever-changing but always exciting musical acts that participate each year. The FS Committee brings in internationally renowned musicians and producers, so no event is like another.
A highlight of Starfields that is often overlooked is the vendors. For those who get the munchies on nights out, Starfields never skimps on the variety of food offered- many of which is not generally available at any other time. This year, especially, guests are promised an extensive and exciting Kombucha addition to the gourmet lineup.
Is it really worth it?
With 2,300 guests attending Starfields each year, it’s suffice to say that Starfields is no flop. No event is ever perfect for every single person, but Starfields tends to be the highlight of Fresher’s Week.
For a good time and a good cause, Starfields is not to be overlooked.
